How do I sign up?

1. Go to the upper right hand corner of any page and click on "Sign Up"
2. Click on the blue button that says "Sign Up Using Facebook"
3. Enter your Facebook login information: Email & Password
4. Start Something … Ask a Question, Start a Debate, Create a Hall or Create a Rubric.

What if I don't have a Facebook account?

If you're 13 or over, it's worth getting one. Go to Facebook and sign up.

What if I don't want to sign in with my Facebook account?

You can sign up using Create Account …

How do I sign up using Create Account?

1. Go to the upper right hand corner of any page and click on "Sign Up"
2. Click on the grey text that says "Sign Up Using Create Account"
3. Under the CREATE ACCOUNT tab, fill in the form.
- Name: First, Last
- Username
- Email Address
- Password
- Debate Association (you may not have any affiliation)
- Terms of Use/Privacy Policy
4. Click on the grey button that says "Create My Account"
5. Check your inbox for your Activation Email. The subject line will read: Welcome to DebateHall.com!
6. Open the email and click the link to complete your registration.
7. Start Something … Ask a Question, Start a Debate, Create a Hall or Create a Rubric.

Sign-in trouble using Facebook?

If you signed up using your Facebook Account, make sure you are signed into  Facebook.

I forgot my password or username. How do I reset my password?

1. Find the "Sign In" link on the upper right hand corner of any page.
2. A box will pop up in the center of the screen …
3. Click on the grey text that says "Sign In Using Password"
4. Another box will pop up in the center of the screen …
5. Click on the grey text on the lower right corner that says "Forgot Password?"
6. Enter your email in the form, press SEND, and DebateHall will send you a new password.

I never received my password reset email.

Try again and double check your email address. Also, make sure you are using the email address associated with your DebateHall account.

I didn't request a "Your DebateHall Password has been reset" email. Why am I receiving it?

If you receive an email you weren't expect with "Your DebateHall Password has been reset" in the subject line, it may be another user who mistakenly thought they are the owner of your username or who misspelled their own username.
1. Login with the new password.
2. Click on your name at the upper right corner of any page.
3. A menu will drop down ...
4. Click on PROFILE at the top of the drop down menu.
5. Click on the ACCOUNT SETTINGS tab.
6. Enter a password that you want. You can use your original password.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the form and click on the grey button that says "Update Account"

How do I add a Profile Image?

1. Click on your name at the upper right corner of any page.
2. A menu will drop down ...
3. Click on PROFILE at the top of the drop down menu.
4. Click on the grey button that says "Upload Image"
5. A box will appear in the center of your screen …
6. Click the dark grey button that says "Browse"
7. Find the image you want to use. Click on it.

How do I edit my profile?

1. Click on your name at the upper right corner of any page.
2. A menu will drop down ...
3. Click on PROFILE at the top of the drop down menu.
4. Click on the tab that says "Edit Profile"
5. Enter the following:
- Age
- Location
- Occupation
- Bio
6. Click the grey button that says "Update Profile"

How do I manage email notifications?

1. Click on your name at the upper right corner of any page.
2. A menu will drop down ...
3. Click on PROFILE at the top of the drop down menu.
4. Click on the tab that says "Account Settings"
5. Scroll down the form to the heading that says "Email Notifications"
6. Check off whichever tabs apply.
7. Click on the grey button that says "Update Account"

I'm signed into one of my accounts, but not the one I wanted.

1. For the sake of transparency, DebateHall encourages users to maintain only one account using your full name. If you signed up for one account using your Facebook login and another account using the regular “Sign Up” method, you may have different email addresses linked to different accounts.
2. Pick the account you want to maintain, find your username in the upper right hand corner of any page. Click on “Profile”, find the tab that reads “Account Settings” and change your email address to the one you consistently use.

Can I change my DebateHall username?

Currently there is no way to do so. For the sake of transparency, DebateHall encourages you to use your full name, so we create your username based on the first and last name on your Facebook profile or the first and last name you entered when signing up using Create Account.

How do I change my password?

1. Click on your name at the upper right corner of any page.
2. A menu will drop down ...
3. Click on PROFILE at the top of the drop down menu.
4. Click on the tab that says "Account Settings"
5. Scroll down to the heading that says Password ...
6. Fill in the blanks with your new password.
7. Click on the grey button that says "Update Account"

Posting Videos …


Can I record video within/straight to DebateHall?

Yes! If you have a webcam you will automatically be shown a Recording box when you click on a "+Post" button

Why can't I record a video on DebateHall - why does DebateHall only allow uploading?

A. You don't have a webcam
B. You haven't given Flash permission to access your webcam
C. Your Permissions may only allow you to upload video

How do I upload a video?


A. Uploading video when asking a question:

1. After submitting your question in written form, your browser will open a new page …
2. Click on the blue button that says “+Post”
3. Click on "Upload Existing Video" in the lower right of the "Record Question" box
4. A box will appear in the center of your screen …
5. Click the dark grey button that says “Browse”
6. Find the video you want to use. Click on it.

B. Uploading video in ASK & ANSWER:

1. Click on the tab that says “Ask & Answer”
2. Click on a question that interests you.
3. Under the VIDEO ANSWERS tab, find and click on the grey button that says “+Post”
4. Click on "Upload Existing Video" in the lower right of the "Record Answer" box
5. A box will appear in the center of your screen …
6. Type a title for your answer.
7. Click on the dark grey button that says “Browse”
8. Find the video you want to use. Click on it.

Start Something …

1. Locate the orange button that says “Start Something” at the top right corner of any page.
2. Click it and a menu will drop down displaying four options:
- Ask A Question
- Start A Debate
- Start A Hall
- Start A Rubric

How do I Ask A Question?

1. Click on “Ask A Question” in the Start Something drop down menu.
2. Fill in the appropriate fields below the ASK A QUESTION tab.
3. Click on the grey button that says “Submit Question”
4. If you wish to post your question by video, click on the blue button that says “+Post”.
5. If you have a webcam you will automatically be shown a "Record Question" box when you click on a "+Post" button

6. If you want to upload a video instead, click on "Upload Existing Video" in the lower right of the "Record Question" box
5. A box will appear in the center of your screen …
6. Click the dark grey button that says “Browse”
7. Find the video you want to use. Click on it.

How do I Start A Debate?

1. Click on “Start A Debate” in the Start Something drop down menu.
2. Fill in the appropriate fields below the START A DEBATE tab.
3. Name the “Proposition”. A proposition is a resolution, or statement of a problem.
4. Designate “Public” or a particular “Hall”.
5. Designate a category - i.e., Politics, Law/Gov, etc...
6. Click on the grey button that says “Start Debate”.

How do I Start A Hall?

1. Click on “Start A Hall” in the Start Something drop down menu.
2. Fill in the appropriate fields below the START A HALL tab.
3. Name the Hall.
4. Designate the location of your Hall.
5. Make it public or private.
6. Describe the Hall - e.g., it is a venue for discussion related to healthy school lunches.
7. Click on the grey button that says “Start Hall”.

How do I Start A Rubric?

1. Click on “Start A Rubric” in the Start Something drop down menu.
2. Fill in the appropriate fields below the START A RUBRIC tab.
3. Name the Rubric.
4. Describe the Rubric - e.g., it is affiliated with the Harvard Institute to grade....
5. Designate the criteria by first naming the criteria and then describing it.
6. Click “Add” for as many criteria as you desire.
7. If it is a draft, click on the grey button that says “Save”.
8. When you’re ready to use it, click on the orange button that says “Publish”.
